Sewing instructions

General steps to sew this garment. Seam allowance is 1 cm (3/8") unless stated otherwise.

Supplies

  • French terry or sweatshirt fleece
  • Ribbing for cuffs and neckline
  • Matching thread and the right needle
  1. Prewash and press your fabric before cutting so it will not shrink after sewing.
  2. Print the pattern at 100%, check the test square and cut the pieces following the cutting list. Transfer notches, darts and button marks.
  3. Cut with the greatest stretch running horizontally (around the body). Use pattern weights instead of pins so the knit does not distort.
  4. Sew knits with a serger or a stretch stitch (narrow zigzag) and a ballpoint needle.
  5. Hem the kangaroo pocket openings, press the edges under and topstitch it to the front before sewing the side seams.
  6. Join the raglan sleeves to the front and back; watch the notches (double notch = back).
  7. Sew the underarm and side seam in one go, matching the armhole seams.
  8. Sew the hood center seam (or center panel to the sides), finish the front edge and attach it to the neckline matching center back.
  9. Close the rib cuffs and hem band into loops, fold them in half and sew them on, stretching them to fit the garment.
